Audit process

How a tax documentation audit runs at Aiautomatehub — from checklist to findings pack — for Hong Kong profits tax and salaries tax files.

This page walks through a standard tax documentation audit so you know what happens between the first call and the closing memo. Other engagements (pre-filing review, IRD support, file organisation) borrow pieces of this sequence but skip steps that do not apply.

1. Scoping call

We confirm the year of assessment, entity type (private company, branch, partnership), known weak areas, and where archives live. You leave with a draft document request list. If the work is really a statutory audit or pure tax advice, we say so and stop.

2. Fee letter

A written estimate lists fee, deposit (if on-site sorting is included), timeline assumptions, and exclusions. Work starts after you accept in writing.

3. Collection window

You upload digital packs or schedule delivery of paper to Entertainment Building or keep us on-site. We mark the request list: received, partial, or missing. Collection usually runs five to ten business days.

4. Review weeks

Associates index every folder. The lead reviewer tests material lines against invoices, bank statements, payroll, and contracts. Queries go to your nominated document owner in batches — not as a daily drip of one-line emails.

5. Draft findings

You receive a draft memorandum: critical gaps, moderate weaknesses, and housekeeping notes. You have a short comment window to correct factual misunderstandings (for example, a document that existed but was misfiled).

6. Final pack & walkthrough

The final PDF (and optional printed index) is delivered. A walkthrough of up to 90 minutes walks your finance lead and tax agent through priority items. Follow-up clarifying questions are welcome for ten business days.

Document checklist (starter)

Bring what you can; empty sections are still useful signals.

  • Draft tax computation and prior-year filed return
  • Sales and purchase invoices for material amounts
  • Bank statements and interest certificates
  • Payroll summaries, IR56 forms, MPF contributions
  • Fixed-asset register and disposal paperwork
  • Related-party agreements and charge-out workings
  • Support for any exemption or offshore claim schedules
